the real cost of owning a dog

This week we have been learning on the real cost of owning a dog. This is our dog, Odis. His breed is a border collie and can live up to 10 to 17 years. So, it cost $31,667.29 for the lifetime cost and for the total cost per year it cost $2,200. The gender of our dog is a male and weighs 14.8kg. The food cost $803. And the  grooming costed $1,020 per year. Border collies may be one of the cleverest and coolest dogs and can run all day. A interesting fact about is that some border collins have learned to recognize hundreds of words and react to them.

A want or need

This week for inquiry Miiana, Angela and I did research on enterprise we defined what is the difference between want and need.we put 2 examples of want and need on the slide.

Robotics

Today at tech we were learning how to code a circle shape and our initial shape so for example I did T because that is my letter of my first name. To make the code we take our own Mbot and plug our wire into our devise and the Mbot and we try to figure out the coding for both of our tasked for the day. After we think we have done our coding correctly we test it out on the table. First I did my circle it did not turn out on the first try so I asked my friend and she helped me. Then we take a screen shot of our work and we put it on our google slide work.

Pop-up globe visit

We were given the oppertunity to meet Rhuben and Rita who are both currently actors for the pop-up globe. They came to us to talk about William shakespeare, the best selling fiction author of all time. Did you know William shakepheare wrote 38 plays and 154 sonnets (poems) way back in the 1600s? they told us why the pop-up globe has an open roof it is so it is not to dark for the preformances. Its funny because most of the audience get inolved in the 4th wall, the narriater includes audience in the play/act. William shakespeare was born in 1562, and was born in Stranford-Apon-Avon, United Kingdom. William shakespeare died on his 52nd birthday. He had 3 children named Judith, Susanna, and Hamlet. This day was a fun educational day.

Waltzing Matilda

Here my group and I did a Waltzing Matilda summary so we read the poem by Andrew Barton AKA ‘Banjo’ Paterson and put the main or important words in one section and then use the important words, to sum up, our ideas in a few sentences.

In this photo I did an activity I did the main idea from the poem Waltzing Matilda and how I knew in detail one u can see that it is about a swagman  A swagman is a seasonal worker. if you are wondering what these words mean here is a  translation Waltzing = walking on foot, Matilda = swag bag, Swagman = seasonal worker, Jumbuck = sheep, Billabong = water hole. These activities were fun and cool I really enjoyed it.

Duffy assembly

There was a Duffy role model assembly. We had a special guest by the name Jamie Wall. He came to talk to us about his life about being a sports commentator.Jamie is flying to Japan to report the rugby for the Maori television. Jamie Wall has written a book called "Brothers in Black", which is one of the top best selling book in New Zealand. Jamie was inspired by reading the Men in Black book of rugby history in NZ. Once Jamie finished talking about him and his career we got handed out Duffy books. My two books were called “Savage Stone Age” and “I am Slappy’s evil twin”. I am really looking forward to reading these books and also a really big thanks to Duffy for providing books for us.

Wasp life cycle

This week for reading Rangitoto has been reading a book called The striped invader. This book was baced on a wasps life cycle. In our group we talked about how the cycle of a wasp was. First the egg second they turn in to larvae next pupae and lastly a wasp. This story aslo talks about how wasp help the queen eat and how the drones find food for the queen wasp. I enjoyed this activity because I learnt more about wasps and their life.

Early Moari Enterprise

Mao-ri were the first to ex-change i-tems. Mao-ri tra-ded with ha-pu and iwi. They al-so cr-ea-ted mar-kets of food. Wha-nau would al-so make kai-moa-na. Mao-ri star-ted ex-chan-ging years ago.

This week for inquiry we were learning about early Maori enterprise and economics. In small groups our task was to write a summary of our learning in five sentences. After we had done that we had a challenge to make each of the five sentences have exactly 10 syllables. That part was hard because you had to try and find words that fitted in with the number of syllables, but it was really fun too.
