This week for Science we have been learning about Mrs C Gren. Mrs C Gren is the acronym for "Movement, Respiration, sensitivity, Cells, Growth, reproduction, Excretion and Nutrition". Our google presentation is also interactive so that people can get around the presentation easily.

Vincent Van Gogh Timeline

LI: To create a timeline to show the life of Vincent Van gogh

This week, for literacy and inquiry we worked together to create a timeline of Vincent Van Gogh’s life. We used our smart searching skills to find information about Vincent Van Gogh. Vincent was an Impressionist artist, meaning he liked to paint a moment in time (still life). I worked collaboratively with Haylee, Sakina, and Florence to get this timeline completed. We enjoyed learning about Vincent Van gogh as we were able to learn something new.  Something we all found interesting was that he cut off a part of his ear and sent it to his girlfriend, because he got into an argument with Paul Gauguin, who is one of his friends. This was interesting, because we wouldn’t imagine someone cutting off part of their ear.

Scientist Research: Albert Einstein | Physics

This week as an activity for distance learning in reading, I worked to create a DLO on researching a famous physicist. I chose to do Albert Einstien because I was most familiar with his discoveries. for this activity, i researched more about him and what he was doing at a young age to learn more things about him. he was a very smart person his IQ was 140 which is intelligent. it was interesting reading about him because of the things he did and what he was capable of because of how much knowledge he had.

Kupe x Captain Cook Venn Diagram

For this reading task, I worked with my reading group (The Kiwi Group) to create a Venn diagram. The Venn diagram was to explain what similarities and differences between the two navigators Kupe and Captain James Cook had. To fill in the sheet we watched a few videos about what they did and used the information to fill out the Venn diagram.

Treaty of Waiting - Collaborative Summary

Te Tiriti o Waitangi is a very important time in New Zealand history. In 1860, representatives from the British Crown and Maori Chiefs signed a treaty of agreement, to let the Maori have ownership over their land and property. Partnership, Participation, and Protection were the underlining principles under the treaty. They got the treaty to be signed by over 500 Maori chiefs.

In reading we looked at the Treaty of Waitangi, and explored what really happened in our history/past. In small collaborative groups, we read something that explained the story and summarized our understanding. I worked with Florence, Sakina, Haylee, Miiana, and Ellenora. The highlighted words in our summary above, are the keywords we used from our vocabulary list.

Reading presentation

For the last past weeks we have been learning about the great plague of London. We each made a slide to present what we have been learning and what happened. The great plague happened by just one little rat that had jumped of a boat. It started way back in 1665 but luckily ended in 1666 because of the big fire London so it killed rats and fleas. The rich people like the queen and king got to move out because they could afford it while the poor stayed and more of the Town got more infected by this disease. They painted a red plus or cross looking figure on the door so that people know the plague was inside. Once one of your family members were infected you had to stay with them.

Exploring our national current events

This week in reading we explored the different types of these current Eyaka Nidhi and I were finding out different information about NZ current news. This week for writing we learning about PIE, P is for persuading, I is for inform and E is for entertainment and we looked at some news articles that were happening in NZ. We created a Google Map showing where the article took place. We were supposed to find articles that relate to Timeliness which means that is happening right now, Relevance which means a story that happened nearby or is concern to the local in interest, Magnitude which means A story that is great in size of number or a lot of people died, Unexpectedness means something unusual, or something that occurs without any warning, Impact means news that will affect a large number of readers. Reference to someone famous or important means a news about the prominent person, Oddity means a unique situation, Conflict which means a major struggle in the news, Reference to something negative means the bad news sells more than good news, Continuity means a continuation of a story that has been in the news. Emotions mean emotions such as jealousy, love or hate, increase interest in a story and progress which means new hope or new improvements. I had a lot of fun doing this and while doing this I learned what is happening around me.

Hour of Code

This week the class and I have been doing a leaning game called  Hour of Code there are many different options to explore on code. But our class has been focusing on the Minecraft topic which is were people/players can learn basic programming and how to use code. This app is very cool it can help you have that knowledge about different sorts of topics in coding. On the Minecraft game there are exact 12 levels I had to complete it started out easy but then got more challenging going towards the end. How we had to figure out the different types of coding like Moving forward, turn left, turn right repeat and we have to make our character go different directions to get where they need to be.

Literary Devices

Here is the link to the DLO
In reading we are learning about poetry our task was to focus on Literary devices. Our challenge was to create a DLO using google docs. In this Task I worked collaboratively with Sandra as a pair we were focusing on the 6 main literary devices. The 6 main important words were Onomatopoeia, Metaphor, Simile,Personification, Alliteration and Hyperbole. On each of these key word literary devices Me and Sandra defined each of the words using only the explore tool on google docs. It was difficult challenge as we were only allowed to use the explore tools on google docs. The pictures help describe the definition of these 6 literary devices.
