At tech our year 8 students made sushi. we first prepared our chicken and added mayonnaise, sweet chili sauce and salt then we mashed up our rice with a spatula so it was not all clumped together. When using the rice you have to dip your hands into some water so when you use the rice it's not sticking on your hands. Next, we proceeded to add our ingredients onto our nori sheets which is the outside for our sushi we spread out the rice so it would fold up nicely. we hand-rolled up our sushi with a bamboo mat. After we rolled it up you add water to the end of the sushi so it can stay stuck on and not fall apart. The end result was either a failure or a success for a first try. At the end we all got to try our sushi with some soy sauce and sit down in the kitchen.
I am a Year 8 student at Panmure Bridge School in Auckland, NZ. I am in Learning Space 2 and my teacher is Mrs Anderson.

Why is it important to use our PBS CARE Values?
LI: To write an explanation using TEEL Paragraphs
This week for writing Sakina, Haylee, Matthew, and I worked together to create an explanation about why it's important to use our PBS C.A.R.E values. TEEL stands for topic sentence, example or evidence, explain and link ideas. We put together our idea’s and added some technical words in the making. This task was to help us revise on writing explanations as next week is assessment week so we did this collaborative challenge to remind ourselves what is needed when we write explanations. Something I found interesting is how we were able to use more technical words using TEEL.

New Zealand History
This week for Maori Language week Haylee, Victoria, Florence and I created a DLO about the history of New Zealand, some interesting facts, and we chose an example of a Whakatauki to share through a screencastify. In this DLO we have included all about the history of Maori Language Week and where it began. A Whakatauki is the Māori proverb or poetic and metaphorical expressions that reflects on thoughts, advice or values from past generations. We’ve enjoyed working collaboratively on this activity as we were all able to gain a better understanding of the Maori language and the history of their culture.
Exploring Places around New Zealand
This week for Maori Language week, we created multiple DLO's, to teach others different information about Maori. Haylee, Sakina and I worked collaboratively to complete this activity. In our DLO, we included different places in New Zealand, with the meaning and what we found interesting. A place around New Zealand I found the most interesting, was Waitanga, meaning weeping water or noisy. I really enjoyed doing this activity.
Maori Language Week App
Since this week is Maori Language week, name, name and I created an interactive app where you can learn some basic words in Maori as it is a challenge that was set. In our app we’ve included some time words, greetings, days of the week and months of the year in Maori, we’ve also included a small quiz at the end where you can test your knowledge on Maori. We’ve enjoyed learning some words in Maori and enjoyed creating this app for others to learn the language.
Tuakana Teina
This Wednesday, Rm 2 worked along with LS2 students for Tuakana Teina and created an artwork dedicated towards Maori Language week. Tuakana Tiena at our school is a time when senior students help the juniors through learning. This is good for us as we could contribute to learning in an exciting way with younger students while being leaders, and also appreciating the Maori culture for this week. My partner, Luna worked really well together to come up with some creative design patterns for our panel. The goal was to encourage the younger students to do most of the work and get them out of their comfort zone to be able to try new things with their learning. The art we created was drawn with chalk on black cardstock paper and overlined with twin rope to almost accentuate and bring out the detail of our designs of our string art panels. I really enjoyed helping my partner create her art and of course working collaboratively with Luna.

Vincent van gogh painting
For art, we created the sunflowers of Vincent van Gogh's painting since we have been learning about him. Our first step was to make the horizon line that would help us build our structure of the vase and the line between our background. To make the petals we did a technique called flat hold and flip that creates the effect of a petal. For the center of the flower, we added shading and texture by dabbing out the paintbrush to make the sunflower look, we also added the colour copper for the look of brown. We mixed different paints to get the right colour to make it look realistic.

Vincent Van Gogh Timeline
This week, for literacy and inquiry we worked together to create a timeline of Vincent Van Gogh’s life. We used our smart searching skills to find information about Vincent Van Gogh. Vincent was an Impressionist artist, meaning he liked to paint a moment in time (still life). I worked collaboratively with Haylee, Sakina, and Florence to get this timeline completed. We enjoyed learning about Vincent Van gogh as we were able to learn something new. Something we all found interesting was that he cut off a part of his ear and sent it to his girlfriend, because he got into an argument with Paul Gauguin, who is one of his friends. This was interesting, because we wouldn’t imagine someone cutting off part of their ear.

Manaikalani servey
This week LS2 helped the Junior kids complete the Manaikalani survey. We helped the kids anwser different questions about their learning and had them tell us how they felt about different subjects: reading. We made sure they understood the questions and went through them together slowly. My budy was Akesha and she was really fun to work with and was able to give me good answers on how she felt/thought about them. Our teacher wanted to make sure they felt as comftorable as possible espicially as only year 1's. Then for Cook Island Language week, we explored the cook island culture with our Rm 2 buddy by looking at the language, food, dance and etc. Something interesting I found while goinng through the cook island language was the Myths and Language. My buddy really liked trying to pronouce the numbers.
Dance class #1
This week for dance we did dance with Miss Rebecca. Dance is a way to express move your body and to be creative. The music she played really helped me dance in different ways and with my friends. Next we did a freeze activity, where she played some music and what ever time she paused it she would call out a shape to make with our body like a star or triangle. Then she would make it harder by getting us to make these shapes with the people around us. We tried coming up with some different ways to create a shape with eachother. Our last activity was mixing into 4 groups and working together to quickly create a letter in the alphabet in 15 seconds.

Life Education
Science Main Ideas | Reading
This DLO is identifying the ideas of science we have learnt from the information we have gained. To find the vital information, we negotiated by collaborating and communicating with our team. We shared our opinions and ideas, we took notes and from them we selected and rejected information to get to our final conclusion.
For us the 3 main vital ideas are:
Science is the discovery of What, Why, and How events happen
The three main branches of science are Physics, Chemistry, and Biology
There are two main categories of science, and they are Basic and Applied Science
Science Summary | Blog Post
LI: to summarise the information.
This DLO is highlighting our summary about what we know about science. In our groups, we have been sharing our ideas on posted notes and found the key words which we then wrote a summary about what science is. To then create a summary about the topic. We needed to skim and scan for key vocabulary to create this DLO. We also had to join our ideas together to create a more efficient idea.
We used our new question dice to help us construct some questions we want to find more about. The three questions we made using the dices were:
When did science start?
How will science progress in the future?
Who was the first scientist?
Making connections with problem solving
Today for inquiry we did Tangrams. Tangrams are ancient Chinese puzzles that were invented in China around the 19th century. We used A4 paper and a pair of scissors to make different shapes. LS1 was invited up to our class in the second block to do this as well. We were given a picture of shapes and was shown different examples of animals we could use such as cats, dogs, horses, fish, birds, and many more. This learning was about problem solving and following instructions. Everyone helped each other with this activity and collaborated.

This week for another home learning challenge, Haylee, Victoria, Sakina, Florence and I decided to do the Sky Tower activities. For the first activity, we wrote a list of 5 facts about the Sky Tower, using our smart searching skills. For our second activity, we created a new mascot for the Sky Tower and gave an explanation about why we chose them. For our last activity, we chose an activity we could do at the Sky Tower and wrote down why we chose it, what it is and how much it would cost to do that activity.

In LS2, we created different activities to complete at home. These activities were based on places in New Zealand. Victoria, Haylee, Florence, Taheesha and I worked collaboratively and started off with the Auckland Zoo activities. For the first activity, we wrote about what the benefits a person gets when they buy a friend of a zoo pass, how much a friend of a zoo pass costs and the costs of your family to each have a friend of a zoo annual pass. For our second activity, we chose an animal from the zoo and created an infographic about them. For our bonus activity, we created a DLO about zoo keeping.

This week for tech at Tamaki College, we carried on with our designs for our 4 recipients. We chose one design we wanted to create for a recipient we also had to make sure there were no skinny thin parts. So our group decided to choose a Mickey mouse design that wasn't that hard. When we had chosen our designs Mr. Grundy would print it out, so we could make our design. He also explained the first step of how to carve out our designs so for next week we are ready.
Kupe x Captain Cook Venn Diagram
For this reading task, I worked with my reading group (The Kiwi Group) to create a Venn diagram. The Venn diagram was to explain what similarities and differences between the two navigators Kupe and Captain James Cook had. To fill in the sheet we watched a few videos about what they did and used the information to fill out the Venn diagram.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The music I have a tied opinion on the music is very cool a nice mash-up and stuff but also there are some songs with things kids should not hear But other than that the songs go good with the dances and I enjoy watching them dance. What they should improve... Nothing I love their dance, songs, clothing style and everything else I think they are a successful dance group that most people enjoy.
In this activity we looked at Parris Goebel, a very famous New Zealander. Parris always like dancing as a child. At the age of 15 she was very successful. In Auckland she started The Palace Dance Studio also in 2019 Parris and one of her crews, The Royal Family, won the World Hip Hop Dance Championship. Twenty-Seven Names used to be Love Lies Bleeding but it was copyright from a different company in the US. So they ended up having to change their name. While thinking of a new name they had wroten a list of people who helped and supported their business. Then they had the idea of Twenty-Seven names.
I Think their brand name is very cool creative and it has a good meaning. It will bring a lot of attention and I don't think they should change it. It's also a good way to thank/acknowledging the 27 people who have supported their business.
For this activity, we looked at a New Zealand fashion label called "Twenty-Seven Names". the people of the business had been friends since primary school who are Rachel Easting and Anjali Burnett. We were asked to share how they got their name and if we like it or not if we don't what would it be changed to?. I like their name and I don't think they should change it.
