Day 5 | Activity 2: Swimming To Safety

Yursa Mardini was 18 years when she helped save 20 passengers sea-crossing on a boat. Something caused an engine failure in the boat full of people. On her journey to a safe country, the engine broke/failed. Brave Yursa took responsibility to save those people and risked her own life for those other innocent people for 3 and a half hours.

This week for day 5, activity 2 of week 1 for SLJ, we wrote about Yursa Mardini. we read her story about how she saved/rescued 20 passengers from a boat. Yursa is part of the Refugee Olympics team. There is also about what she did above.

  1. Kia Ora Taheesha!,
What a great summary you have wrote about the story of Yursa Mardini. I have enjoyed reading your summary. I can't believe Yursa Mardini saved 20 passengers! That's amazing of what she has done.

    Great Work!

  2. Kia Ora Taheesha,

Well done on writing a simple recount about Yursa’s journey. She was very brave wasn’t her. Did you know that she competed at the 2016 Olympics in Rio? She is trying to qualify for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. Do you think you would ever want to compete at the Olympics? I would! But I can imagine I would feel a lot of pressure on me to do well because it only happens every four years!

    Blog ya later,

    Dani

  3. Hi Taheesha,
I liked how you described Yusra as brave and said that she risked her own life for the other passengers on the boat. She also joined a refugee Olympics team in 2016. Do you think you could do what she did?

I liked reading your explanation on the story of Yursa. Did you think she was brave for what she did? Would you be brave enough to do what she did?
